ISO 22000:2018
WHAT IS ISO 22000?
ISO 22000 Food safety management systems is a requirement for any organisation in the food chain and is the international standard for food safety management systems.

ISO released the new version of ISO 22000:2018 in June 2018.
ISO 22000:2018 replaces ISO 22000:2005.
The high level structure of this standard is now aligned with the other ISO standards promoting harmonisation. One significant change is the introduction of the High-Level Structure common to all the ISO management systems standards. All certified organisations must transition prior to June 2021.
ISO 22000 is a general standard, enabling its principles to be used for all kinds of food and feed industries dependent on risk assessment thinking.
This standard goes beyond the HACCP principles, increasing the focus on the risk elements when producing a food, to look at the supply chain more broadly.
ISO 22000:2018 has maintained a strong link to Codex standards.
The new version of ISO 22000 also clarifies the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle by having two separate cycles in the standard working together. The two PDCA circles operate one inside the other, one covering the management system and the other, the operations, which simultaneously cover the principles of HACCP defined by Codex.
The new version ISO 22000:2018 risk includes both the hazard assessment on the operational level and also the concept of business risk and opportunities.
This standard is recognised and accepted worldwide and all companies within the food chain, directly as well as indirectly, can be certified against this standard.
